Barefoot Moons

Been awhile
There's been too much since the last time I wrote!  We planned to go back to Rowe Mesa, but a new opportunity came to us and we went through all of God's open doors and in March, we moved to The Chico Basin Ranch, which is SE of Colorado Springs.  It has been a crazy ride, but it is good.  Hard to believe we have been here over 5 months.  Michael is managing the ranch for Duke Phillips, who has the lease on this 87,000 acre ranch.  We are about 40-45 minutes from either Co Spgs or Pueblo, which has been an adjustment, but we are isolated enough on the ranch for it to be a good thing.  It is a really great ranch and we have had lots of educational as well as "get to be ranch kids" opportunities already for the kids.  We have also had more opportunities to be "professional musicians" in the last 5 months than we have in many years.  So, it is good.  Moving and change is always hard and I hope and pray we won't move again for a very long time.

Still haven't gotten into the idea of a daily or anything regular sort of blog.  Maybe someday!
Write us!

Elko and all
Well, it feels a little strange, still, to write a blog, but it's the new world, I guess, and a good way to "update" our website.  We did finally get out, it's a long story, and we are staying with Michael's gracious parents near Las Vegas, NM.   Michael found a trail off the mesa to a little town that is only 3-4 miles by crow, so he rides in to the ranch every few days to check on heifers and chickens.  It's been pretty warm, so he is going to try the road next week when it is frozen in the mornings and see if he can get a vehicle out.  Right now we have a rental and I'm paranoid to get it dirty - and Michael's parents live on a dirt (muddy) road.  I really want our trusty -been through it all- Suburban back.

Elko was great.  We just had a really nice time, a little break from our last couple months and the kids.  We were there 2 years ago and it was great, but it was nice to go back and know more people and just feel a bit more bold.  We met some really great people.  One of the great things we do is trade cds with other musicians and poets, so even though you just can't see it all and there are so many people you miss (often because you're standing out in the hall talking to old and new friends!), we get to come home and listen to a lot of new music and even got a few dvds.

There is just really some great stuff out there.    It is inspiring.  We've been so caught up in childraising and have changed jobs a couple times in the last couple of years, so we've been a little dry musically, but Michael has written a few really great songs recently and so we hope to just keep on that  road.  We're even looking into options for getting into a studio again..... It helps me to listen to others, even though I have written nary a song, yet - just to get a feel for the way other people use words.  I just need to start writing things down, I think.   There's definitely some poetry in our last few years..... It also helps me as a singer, to listen to everything I can and find what would fit my voice.

Try to make a place for Elko some January!

Barefoot Moons?

When Michael recorded his first solo tape, he called his "company" Barefoot Music.  We have continued to use that and so sometimes I have sort of morphed that into Barefoot Moons.  So, we took a picture.

Snowbound

We haven't left our place since we came home from church Christmas Eve.  We got snow on the 29th.  Records in NM.  We're used to snow from Colorado, but NM is not equipped for the amount we received.  We are the only ones on a non county road, so it is up to us to get out.  Michael's boss has been working on it from his end in Santa Fe, but it seems like every option keeps falling through, so Michael has been trying to just drive and push snow with a truck with chains and a 2wd backhoe.  It's pretty slow.  They have a conference next week that we are supposed to be at, but we're not sure if we'll get out of here or not for it.  The main problem is taking care of the animals.  At the end of the month is Elko, and we really can't see missing that, so somehow, we'll have to find someone to housesit or something.  It will be interesting to see what the next few weeks bring.

Photos?
Hey
I'm still just fiddling with this new blog.  Right now I'm working on how we do photos on the blog.  I guess we just insert them into an entry.  I guess I'll see what happens.

Welcome
Hey
Welcome to our blog.  We'll just be posting every once in awhile.  It's late as I write this intro blog, so I'll head to bed and try again another day.
